For instance, when a solar cell fails in a panel, the electrical energy that is generated by the photovoltaic system turns into heat energy; over time, this resistance heat can burn out the cell damaging the panel, the system, and other cells around it.

In addition, junction boxes and electrical components on the panels themselves are also susceptible to failure. They can damage and burn out the attached panels.
